SERVING THE STATE SENATE 7TH DISTRICT

LOCAL ELECTIONS EDITION:

- New Mayor coming to Plymouth
- Contact numbers for CSX Transportation

With elections coming tomorrow we wanted to get out a shorter special edition of our newsletter. Also, our office has received many calls from people who have been stuck at the recent train blockages in Plymouth who are asking how they can contact CSX. Please see the story below.

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE ON TUESDAY

There will be many local elections tomorrow in the 7th District. Elections will take place for Livonia, Plymouth City, Northville City, and Northville Public Schools, and will include ballot questions such as Mayor, City Council, or City Commissioner in select areas. If you have questions we encourage you to visit the Wayne County Clerk's website, or the website for your local clerk. You can also view sample ballots by clicking HERE.

In Plymouth, longtime Mayor Dan Dwyer decided not to run again after 18 years of service. Newly seated city commissioners will select his replacement at their upcoming November 13th meeting.

All four of the city of Plymouth's voting precincts are at the Plymouth Cultural Center, 525 Farmer Street. To see a map please click HERE.

CSX RAILROAD BLOCKAGES

Our office has received many complaints about CSX trains blocking traffic for hours at a time by having their cars stop on the tracks. You can read more about the most recent egregious example by clicking HERE.

Senator Colbeck had the following statement:

“These long waits are more than just a routine inconvenience no matter how you want to look at it,” said Sen. Colbeck. “When something like this is 9 hours long it is not a delay – it’s a blockage, and it puts lives at risk. While most of the solutions here will need to take place at the federal level because of the nature of railroad authorities, I know firsthand how hard local officials are working to get both answers and solutions. Congressman Trott has been very active with forcing a resolution from CSX on this, and I’ve also contacted CSX and MDOT to make sure we are doing all we can at the state level as well.”

If you find yourself stuck at a railroad crossing or see a railroad emergency, you can call CSX Railroad at 1-800-232-0144.  Additionally, Tom Livingston, VP of Govt. Affairs for CSX, can also be reached at 1-708-832-2169.

We’ll have an update for you on getting this problem fixed in our next newsletter.
