The critical Michigan tipped wage credit could soon be eliminated. Because of this, one in five of restaurants in Michigan are at risk of closure as the increase in the wage credit negatively affects their already tight budget.

Similarly, many small businesses with less than 50 employees are being threatened with unnecessary and burdensome costs through employment entitlement requirements.

To address these concerns, the Republicans in the House have passed House Bills 4001 and 4002, which restores the tipped wage, ensuring that servers continue to be paid well, and prevents unnecessary costs from being imposed on small businesses with less than 50 employees.

However, Senate Democrats are blocking both of these bills, and if they are not passed before February 21st, these ruinous laws will be put in place.

The Senate Democrats must stop blocking these bills. We cannot allow these small businesses and jobs to be lost.

We will continue this fight to help protect the interests of restaurant workers and small businesses in our communities.

Best wishes,

Office of Senator Jim Runestad
