Governor Whitmer Orders Temporary Restrictions on Non-Essential Medical and Dental Procedures

LANSING, Mich. -- Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-17, which imposes temporary restrictions on nonessential medical and dental procedures beginning as soon as possible but no later than March 21, 2020 at 5:00pm.

Executive Order 2020-17 states that hospitals, freestanding surgical outpatient facilities, and dental facilities, and all state-operated outpatient facilities, must implement a plan to temporarily postpone all non-essential procedures until the termination of the COVID-19 state of emergency.

“My number one priority remains to flatten the curve and protect the most people we can from the spread of coronavirus,” said Governor Whitmer. “Our health care workers are on the front lines every day protecting Michiganders during these extraordinary and difficult times. By postponing all nonessential medical and dental procedures, we expect to reduce the strain on the health care system and protect people. My administration will continue to do everything we can to mitigate the spread of the disease and ensure our children, families, and businesses have the support they need during these challenging times.” READ MORE

Governor Whitmer Signs Executive Order Clarifying Restrictions on Price Gouging

LANSING, Mich. -- Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-18, which included minor clarifications of her executive order that temporarily imposed enhanced restrictions on the excessive pricing of goods, materials, emergency supplies, and consumer food items.

Since the onset of this public health crisis, some businesses and individuals have continued to sell face masks, hand sanitizers, cleaning supplies, paper products, and other products that people might seek to purchase due to the threat of COVID-19 at unjustified, exceptionally high prices. Executive Order 2020-18 focuses enforcement resources on the cases most pertinent to the emergency by clarifying which price increases constitute price gouging.

“These are challenging times, and we must support one another, not take advantage of others,” said Governor Whitmer. “I will continue to work closely with the Attorney General to enforce these protections and to hold bad actors accountable. I’m going to take every measure we can to mitigate the spread of coronavirus and protect Michigan families. We will get through this together as Michiganders.” READ MORE
