Runestad reintroduces bipartisan legislation to allow nursing home patients to install recording devices in their rooms
I recently reintroduced a bill that would give nursing home patients or their guardians the right to install a recording device in their rooms. This legislation was first passed in a bipartisan manner back in 2023, but was then pocket vetoed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
Senate Bill 412 is necessary to ensure the safety and quality of care for nursing home residents. Allowing residents to place cameras in their own rooms will act as a powerful deterrent to abuse, enable communication with loved ones and help deter future tragedies. Click here to read more.
I also gave a speech on the Senate floor about my bill. Click on the image below to see it featured in Charlie LeDuff’s “No BS Newshour.”

It is imperative that we finally return this legislation to the governor’s desk for her signature.

More than 270,000 Michiganders have no representation in state Senate because Whitmer refuses to call a special election
It has been more than five months since U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet vacated her state Senate seat to serve in Congress, and Gov. Whitmer has made history by not calling for a timely special election. That means the more than 270,000 residents of the 35th Senate District have been without representation since January.
The Detroit News Editorial Board recently challenged the governor’s motivations, writing: “Representation in state government is perhaps the most fundamental right enjoyed by Americans. Whitmer, who has positioned herself as a defender of democracy, has denied a voice to more than 270,000 Michigan residents without explanation. Her reason appears to be a partisan ploy to maintain a Democratic advantage in the state Senate.”

Runestad calls for MSP resignations after 98% ‘no confidence’ vote
The Michigan State Police Troopers Association recently polled its members, asking if they had confidence in embattled MSP Director Col. James Grady and Deputy Director Lt. Col. Aimee Brimacombe. Only 1.52% — just 18 troopers — said yes, while 1,167 (98.48%) voted no.
It has become alarmingly clear that Grady and Brimacombe’s failed leadership has disparaged the reputation of the Michigan State Police. I have demanded they step down immediately.

Runestad fights against sneaky Dem rules to expand voter fraud
I recently participated in a Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) meeting to question the Michigan Board of Election’s proposed set of rules to expand electronic voting beyond its original legislative intent.
These changes could expand electronic voting beyond the scope of our overseas active military and seriously compromise the integrity of the electoral process.
Luckily, these rules are still working their way through the committee process, and I will continue to fight alongside my Republican colleagues in the Senate and House to make sure that these dangerous rule changes do not make their way into law.
Click on the image below to hear my warning to voters about these dangerous intentions.
