Everybody loves the Olympics
I recently had a chance to learn how to Luge – a popular Olympic sport. Did you know that there are only four luge tracks in the United States and two of them are in Michigan? I spent the day in Muskegon with Sen. Jon Bumstead at the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park, seeing firsthand the impact this world class facility has on West Michigan.
or on the image below to watch a video of our visit to the luge facility.
Hint – You may even catch me taking a run down the track.

Senate passes bills to crack down on spam robocalls
Michigan residents have reported an increase in robocall scams, which often target seniors and other vulnerable consumers.
The Senate passed bipartisan legislation that would strengthen consumer protections and empower the attorney general to crack down on harmful spammers who violate the law.
Senate Bills 351-355 would:
| ▪ |
Create explicit rules that telephone solicitors must follow to better protect consumers. |
| ▪ |
Prohibit telephone solicitors from blocking caller ID or displaying misleading names, phone numbers or area codes. |
| ▪ |
Strengthen tools to allow the attorney general to investigate and pursue civil actions for alleged violations or noncompliance. |
| ▪ |
Impose penalties and fines of up to $75,000 for telephone solicitors who target vulnerable residents. |

Carbon monoxide safety during winter weather
Prolonged below-freezing temperatures have increased the use of fuel-burning equipment, raising the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Each year, approximately 34 people in Michigan die from unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning and hundreds more seek emergency treatment. Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that often goes undetected.
The best defense against carbon monoxide poisoning is installing CO detectors with battery backup on every level of a home, with batteries replaced every six months. Anyone who suspects carbon monoxide exposure should call 911 immediately.
