Joint Senate panel hears testimony on Line 5 pipeline

The Senate’s Energy and Technology Committee and Natural Resources Committee heard testimony from several Canadian officials at a joint hearing Tuesday regarding the Line 5 pipeline.

Those testifying included Minister Bob Bailey from Sarnia, Ontario — a member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament.

As chairman of the Energy and Technology Committee, I was able to hear from Minister Bailey and other officials who brought important perspective on the need to protect Line 5.

Attorney general refuses to investigate governor’s nursing home policy

Earlier this week, Attorney General Dana Nessel announced her office will not investigate Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s nursing home policies.

Attorney General Nessel’s refuses is a failure to fulfil the responsibilities she was elected to perform.

Michigan was one of only five states whose executive orders forced nursing homes to take COVID-19-positive patients into the same facilities as the people who are at the highest risk.

Protecting Second Amendment rights

During the past few weeks, I have approved two pieces of legislation that protect our Second Amendment rights: Senate Bill 11 and Senate Resolution 22, which I co-sponsored.

Senate Bill 11 would require county clerks to continue issuing and renewing concealed pistol licenses during declared states of emergency.

Here’s how many people have received a COVID-19 vaccine in St. Clair County

St. Clair County has administered more than 34,016 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as of March 8, according to data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
