Interviewing recently censured Rochester School Board trustee

After releasing an op-ed about her concerns over a proposed tax increase, Rochester School Board Trustee Carol Beth Litkouhi was censured. Her subsequent response to the Rochester School Board for infringing on her First Amendment rights went viral.
I recently sat down to discuss what led to her censure and what the board is now trying to do to silence her.
Our conversation was a productive one and focused on the importance of transparency, open debate, and making sure constituents are aware of the major issues in the system so that we can protect our children and provide them with the best education possible.

Runestad responds to new health and sex education standards

I strongly oppose the new guidelines set forth by the State Board of Education that include sexual topics and concepts.
While Michigan schools are failing and our state ranks in the bottom 10 nationally, the State Board of Education chose to focus on blurring the lines between health and sex education by attempting to include overtly sexual topics as part of the health class standards.
The new “standards” highlight items like gender ideology, gender expression, sexual orientation and same-sex attraction, while normalizing sexual promiscuity, and could be taught to students as young as sixth grade.
These new radical standards are the biggest insult to parental rights, natural biology and basic common sense that we’ve ever seen. Our education system should focus on ensuring that our kids have the skills they need to make it in Michigan, not forcing families to co-parent with the government.
You can read my full statement in response to the new standards here.

Democrat “expert” argues breaking into our country illegally ISN’T a crime

A hearing to introduce new bills that will create “safe zones” for illegal aliens led to a heated back-and-forth between myself and Democratic immigration expert Yvonne Navarrete. Navarrete boldly claimed it is not a crime to be here illegally, and when I explained that being here illegally is, in fact, a crime, she repeatedly insisted that calling it a crime is “my opinion.” It is not my opinion. It is the truth, and it is the law.
