Constituents! Tomorrow, June 23, I am hosting a “people over data centers” rally alongside many of my legislative colleagues at 5:30 p.m. on the East Steps of our state’s Capitol building.
Our state needs a moratorium on data center projects so residents, elected officials and community leaders can properly assess the impacts and repercussions of large-scale data center development.
We are rallying to put communities first and to hold up the voices of residents who have been silenced. Local communities are the most equipped to assess what kinds of developments benefit their livelihoods and communities. A moratorium is needed to obtain clear answers as to the energy use, economic impact and environmental consequences of data centers.
This rally is bipartisan and doesn’t seek to play politics with issues important to our residents. Rather, it is a call for transparency, accountability and advocacy for smart and effective policy as our state navigates the data center issue.
I hope to see you there.
